Established in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a PanAfrican network of centres of excellence offering postgraduate training, research, and public engagement for the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Africa. Building on the success of its first Centre in South Africa, AIMS launched the Next Einstein Initiative (NEI) in 2008 to scale up and roll out the AIMS model across the continent. Five additional centres were established in Senegal (2011), Ghana (2012), Cameroon (2013), Tanzania (2014), and Rwanda (2016). Its global secretariat is situated in Kigali, Rwanda and it has global offices in United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. Design Specialist, Next Einstein Forum!

Reporting to the Managing Director- Next Einstein Forum, the Design Specialist will primarily be responsible for telling the Next Einstein Forum Global Gatherings 2020 story visually through compelling graphic designs, data visualization, and animated videos for both internal and external audiences. As the Design Specialist, you will design all NEF Global Gathering 2020 collateral in line with NEF branding guidelines but not limited to brochures, posters, program documents and conference presentations. As the ideal candidate, you will create and regularly update NEF Global Gatherings 2020 branding guidelines, manage design and printing for all NEF events, campaigns and public engagement activities, manage all regular design requests as per a monthly calendar, provide social media covers and electronic designs for example, GIFs and banners, together with the communications team, story board and create animation videos as required, proofreading and editing of NEF materials for all work, provide draft illustrations/art work for approval, manage final layout and printing requirements to job completion and provide a brief summary of achievements monthly. This is a 10-month opportunity based at the candidate’s home office.

Do you have what we need?

 Bachelor’s Degree in Graphics and Advertising Design;
 Two years’ experience in design or certificate with four years’ experience working in design;
 Fully Equipped Home Office and =knowledge in Adobe creative suite, (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier pro, after effects, character animator) and SharePoint;
 Self-driven and ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines;
 Attention to detail;
 Understanding of social media dynamics and use for impact;
 Ability and desire to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment;
 Experience handling highly confidential information in a professional manner;
 Applications must include a portfolio of work of top ten design jobs.
