Established in 2003 in Cape Town, South Africa, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is a PanAfrican network of centres of excellence offering postgraduate training, research, and public engagement for the advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Africa. Building on the success of its first Centre in South Africa, AIMS launched the Next Einstein Initiative (NEI) in 2008 to scale up and roll out the AIMS model across the continent. Five additional centres were established in Senegal (2011), Ghana (2012), Cameroon (2013), Tanzania (2014), and Rwanda (2016). Its global secretariat is situated in Kigali, Rwanda and it has global offices in United Kingdom, Germany and Canada. French Content Specialist, Next Einstein Forum (NEF)!
In order to produce compelling content in French and deliver French media coverage, the NEF seeks the assistance of French Content Specialist for a period of 10 months. The French Content Specialist will provide exciting content for NEF platforms in French to engage the Francophone audience. Finally, the French Content Specialist will provide support during the NEF Global Gathering 2020, especially to the francophone media and preparing French daily summary blogs. As a professional French Content Specialist, you will draft a French content schedule in consultation with the NEF team for the NEF platform – this should include a blog schedule on the website, French content support for all campaigns, draft blog posts in French and daily social media posts. As well you will prepare and manage content for a French Media kit for all campaigns, a daily summary blog in French for NEF Global Gathering 2020 and edit NEF ambassador/ volunteer guest blogs in French during the NEF Global Gathering 2020. Together with NEF team, you will prepare pitches for the Francophone media (European, Scientific media and regional and national francophone African media), and after approval, provide introductions where applicable to French media. As the ideal candidate, you will prepare further content as required, follow up on all Francophone media requests before and during the NEF Global Gathering 2020, provide introductions to fundraising contacts in France and in Francophone countries, provide a brief summary of achievements monthly and provide an impact report at the end of the Global Gathering 2020 and all other assigned campaigns. This is a 10-month opportunity based at the candidate’s home office.
Do you have what we need?
At least an undergraduate degree in Communication, Journalism or a degree in a scientific field;
At least five years’ experience as journalist within francophone media including scientific media;
At least five years’ editorial experience in French; editorial experience for science magazines is an asset;
Strong network within Francophone media in Europe and among scientific circles;
Knowledge of online and social media trends and best practices;
A strong writer;
Ability to work independently and take initiative as required;
Ability to effectively manage multiple and often conflicting priorities;
Fully Equipped Home Office and self-sufficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publishing), Design applications and savvy with web-based applications (Dropbox, Google, Skype and SharePoint);
As required and based on budget, travel may be required to provide in person assistance to NEF Ambassadors in country. This will be cleared with the NEF’s Managing Director.
