Entrepreneur in the making: Turning data into information for decision making
Richard Oppong Kimi is from Ghana and completed a Bacherlor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of the Cape Coast in Ghana.
Prior to starting at AIMS, Richard had a keen interest in research and data management and a passion to develop mathematical and statistical models and use computer applications to find development solutions that would affect people’s lives. While at AIMS, Richard continued to hone his skills in data management and research.
“I plan to grow the firm and create employment opportunities for other young people. AIMS has given me the confidence that I can do things on my own and I don’t have to rely on other people to give me a job. One can create a whole new world for themselves by identifying gaps and providing solutions.”
Following his graduation from AIMS, Richard returned to Ghana and started a consultancy venture called the Research and Statistical Training Centre, which provides research and data management solutions to small businesses and individuals in the private, non-profit and public sectors. He plans to work with larger organisations in future to assist them with data management as he expands his reach both within Ghana and across the continent. With high rates of unemployment in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially among the youth, self-employment and job creation is becoming increasingly crucial.
