New academic year starts at AIMS Rwanda

AIMS Rwanda welcomed 48 new students including 16 women from 16 countries. The centre also welcomed five tutors, including two women. “AIMS Rwanda is excited to launch its third academic year. This year, AIMS Rwanda expands the academic program to include the Mathematical Sciences for Climate Science stream. The climate sciences stream will equip students with the skills and knowledge to collect interpret data and provide insights that address Africa’s climate change challenges,” said Prof. Blaise Tchapnda, AIMS Rwanda Academic Director

Ten students in total are enrolled in the co-op program for this academic year. Ten students enrolled in the previous co-op cohort are currently doing an internship in various industry partners including Rwanda Revenue Authority, Saham Health Insurance, Bank of Africa and Bosch.

“The opportunity of meeting lecturers from outside Africa has given us a new perspective to a solution oriented teaching and learning. A specific instance is the physical problem solving and mathematical problem solving courses by Prof. Bernd Schoers and Dr. Franca Hoffmann respectively. Also the conducive learning environment aids us to interact with lecturers even after lecture hours,” said Student Representative for the 2019 Class, Jane Kimani.
