Model-based optimization of smallholder agronomic advisories

Model-based optimization of smallholder agronomic advisories

Host institution: ICRISAT / agCelerant-Ethiopia, Addis Ababa

Supervisors: Pierre C. Sibiry Traore / Kindie Tesfaye / Vakhtang Shelia

Project Description:
The Intelligent agricultural Systems Advisory Tool (ISAT) generates and disseminates data driven location specific advisories to assist farmers in anticipating and responding to the emerging conditions through the season. This internship will assess farmer decision trees using model analyses of historical climate and weather forecasts impacts on crop yields. This knowledge will be used to optimize advisory development for selected cropping systems of Senegal (peanut) and Ethiopia (maize), contributing to the CASCAID 2.0 (CCAFS) project and informing the NADiRA innovation action.

Expected outcome:

Exposure to climate risk arising from suboptimal agronomic decisions is reduced through advisories built on models and seasonal predictors.

Applications for this internship should be submitted via the online application system, stating clearly the title of the internship.
