Model-based optimization of smallholder agronomic advisories (maize).

Model-based optimization of smallholder agronomic advisories (maize).

  1. Host Institution:
ICRISAT | agCelerant-Ethiopia, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
  2. Supervisors:
Kindie Tesfaye | Jacob Emmanuel | Pierre C. Sibiry Traore
  3. Project Description:
The Intelligent Agricultural Systems Advisory Tool (iSAT) generates and disseminates data driven location specific advisories to help farmers anticipate and respond to emerging conditions through the season. This internship will assess farmer decision trees using model analyses of historical climate and weather forecasts impacts to optimize advisories for maize, contributing to the CASCAID (CCAFS) and EU-IFAD projects.
  4.  Expected outcome:
Exposure to climate risk arising from suboptimal agronomic decisions is reduced through advisories built on models and seasonal predictors.
