AIMS awarded with the Royal Academy of Belgium’s prestigious Academy Prize for 2023

On 5th October 2024, the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences(AIMS) received the Academy Prize 2023 from the Académie Royale de Belgique (Royal Academy of Belgium). Founded in 1769 and reorganized by a Royal Decree of King Leopold I in 1845, the Academy develops several activities including, in particular, the awarding of prizes, the subsidization of foundations, the organization of conferences and exhibitions.

The Academy Award Prize was in recognition of the quality of work that AIMS is doing through the African Network of Centres of Excellence enabling talented students from Africa to become innovators who contribute to the scientific, educational and economic self sufficiency of the African continent.

The prize was received on behalf of AIMS by Professor Neil Turok, the founder of AIMS and Professor Sam Yala, President of the AIMS Global Network. Also present at the ceremony were some of the AIMS alumni from Belgium and Germany. The Academy Prize was awarded by the administrative committee of the Academy on the Proposal of the Technological Class of the Royal Academy of Belgium.
