The Next Einstein Forum launches search for 15 of Africa’s top young scientists

The Next Einstein Forum (NEF), an African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) initiative in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, announces the opening of the NEF Fellows Programme which will identify 15 of Africa’s top young scientists, honoring their achievement and contributions to Africa and the world’s development at the premier NEF Global Gathering in October 2015 in Dakar, Senegal.

“The brilliant young scientists that will be part of the first NEF Fellows class will play a vital role in showcasing the potential of scientists in Africa,” said Thierry Zomahoun, President and CEO of the AIMS Global Secretariat at the launch. “Our NEF Fellows will occupy a unique place at the NEF Global Gathering, engaging with leaders from Africa and the rest of the world to help catalyse human development through scientific advancement.”

As NEF Fellows, these brilliant young minds will have the opportunity to present their research and engage directly with the 500 outstanding scientists, entrepreneurs, policy-makers, journalists, industrialists from Africa and around the world. Selection will be done by a panel of eminent scientists, including Nobel Prize winners. Selected Fellows will be expected to demonstrate the quality of scientific output in Africa and the potential for science to drive the continent’s development.

“We are convinced of the central role of international-class science and innovation in Africa for long-term sustainable development of Africa and see exceptional potential in the NEF becoming a major catalyst in this field,” said Dr. Ingrid Wuenning Tschol, Senior Vice-President of Robert Bosch Stiftung. “We encourage Africa’s best and brightest to apply as NEF Fellows.”

Applications to the NEF Fellows programme are open to Africans from around the world – including those who currently reside in the Diaspora – in all fields of science, including the social sciences and technology fields.

Applications are available at www.nef.org and will close on 30 November 2014. The selected NEF Fellows will be announced in March 2015.
