New academic year starts at AIMS South Africa

This year, AIMS South Africa has welcomed 40 students, including 16 women from 17 African countries. “It is always a pleasure to welcome new students to the AIMS family and I hope this will be a wonderful and life changing year for you. At AIMS you will be given many opportunities like meeting exceptional teachers and experts from all over the world. You will be given an insight into topics in the mathematical sciences that may be completely new to you and also be introduced to some that are at the cutting edge of what is currently being researched and worked on. Many of which will have relevance to the development and growth of Africa. Topics on offer include data science, disease and financial modelling, quantum computing, theoretical physics and pure mathematics. You are now part of the AIMS network and together with your cohorts at our other AIMS centres, upon completion, you will be joining a group of over 1600 alumni. I am confident that with your talent and ability, together with hard work, dedication and passion you will contribute enormously to the growth and development of Africa,” said Prof. Barry Green, AIMS South Africa Centre President to students.
