Development of gridded input workflows for spatial smallholder yield forecasts

Development of gridded input workflows for spatial smallholder yield forecasts

Host institution: ICRISAT / agCelerant-Ethiopia, Addis Ababa

Supervisors: Pierre C. Sibiry Traore / Kindie Tesfaye / Vakhtang Shelia

Project Description:
The CCAFS Regional Agricultural Forecasting Tool (CRAFT) allows for multi-model forecasting of crop yields on a spatial grid. Providing gridded weather, soil, crop and management inputs for CRAFT calibration requires significant pre-processing due to the growing diversity of data sources, formats, and fitness for purpose. This internship will develop data harvesting and standardization workflows for the implementation of CRAFT in new environments, contributing to the CASCAID 2.0 (CCAFS) project and informing the NADiRA innovation action.

Expected outcome:

Automated workflows reduce time to appropriation of spatial yield forecasting tools by institutions involved in subnational food security monitoring and early warning.
