Assessing the development value of cheap, but dense IoT rain gauge networks

Assessing the development value of cheap, but dense IoT rain gauge networks

Host institution: ICRISAT / agCelerant-Senegal, Dakar

Supervisors : Pierre C. Sibiry Traore / Daniel Annerose

Project Description:
Affordable IoT rain gauges prototyped under the NADiRA innovation action aim to provide live rainfall data from farmer fields at low cost. Budget and technical constraints will affect the reliability of individual point measurements, but higher network density is expected to compensate for that weakness. This internship will evaluate the comparative advantage of cheap, but dense IoT rain gauge networks for agricultural intensification and development, contributing to NADiRA and to the CASCAID 2.0 (CCAFS) project

Expected outcome:

Affordable, trustworthy, locally valid weather data generated from field networks helps reduce exposure to climatic risks in smallholder value chains.
