Project Description

Agronomic data holds huge potential in informing food security efforts if well documented and processed using in-depth mathematics concepts. There is currently a growing interest within agricultural research institutions to better harness the accumulating data from field experiments, surveys, and the laboratory in order to extend the data’s worth in a cost and time effective manner. To achieve this, data must be accurately and properly documented in a digital manner in order to facilitate sourcing, sharing, analysis, and its translation in a practical manner that addresses set goals.

The partnership between the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences Rwanda, and the National Crops Resources and Research Institute (NaCRRI) Uganda under the framework of this internship seeks to accelerate data-driven agronomy research efforts. A first step to achieve this requires digitalization of the existing agronomic data at NaCRRI through the development of a robust database to house existing and future data sets. Thereafter, test the functionality of the system by conducting preliminary analysis using some of the data sets.

Project Expectation

This project seeks to attract four interns who will work collaboratively on the above project and in different departments at NaCRRI. The interns will be based at NaCRRI, Uganda for most part of their tenure, and periodically at AIMS-Rwanda. Candidates who are willing to travel between Rwanda and Uganda via the most economical means are highly desired. Interns will benefit from working within a leading international research network and be exposed to an agricultural research environment involved in providing services and products to the public

Applications for this internship should be submitted via the online application system, stating clearly the title of the internship.

Deadline for applications: January 20th, 2020 – 11:59 PM (EAT).

Any inquiries about these internships should be sent to:
