SUMMARY

The tasks of the Communications Officer include

  • Write media releases
  • Develop and maintain a media list
  • Develop corporate communication
  • Compose our quarterly newsletter, including conducting interviews, soliciting and editing contributions, etc.
  • Contribute content to the AIMS-NEI website
  • Edit texts produced by other members of the team
  • Communicate news about the programme through our blog, twitter and facebook pages
  • Help organise events, conferences, etc.
  • Help maintain a database of contacts.

 

REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Communications Officer forms part of the technical staff of AIMS-NEI. The Communications Officer reports directly to the Director of Academic Development and has direct work relations with the Web Applications Developer and partner organizations.


RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS (Percentages are there as an indication. Certain areas will require more time at certain times and other less.) 

Job Responsibility #1: MEDIA RELATIONS 

(% of Time: 10) 

  • Build and expand a media contact database for dissemination of press releases and other media advisory notes.
  • Compose press releases and send them out.
  • Liaise with partner organisations for join media advisory notes.

Job Responsibility #2:  MARKETING & CORPORATE COMMUNICATION

(% of Time: 30) 

  • Compose suitable text for corporate communication (brochures, flyers, banners, etc.).
  • Coordinate the design of corporate communications products
  • Coordinate the translation of corporate communications products
  • Coordinate the production of corporate communications products

Job Responsibility #3: NEWSLETTERS AND NEW MEDIA

(% of Time: 50)

  • Compose the AIMS-NEI quarterly newsletter, including soliciting contributions, editing, writing and design.
  • Update the AIMS-NEI website, blog, facebook page and twitter feeds with relevant news.
  • Coordinate news with partner organisations (e.g. TED prize blog)
  • Maintain a database of AIMS-NEI contacts, newsletter subscriptions, etc.

Job Responsibility #4: EVENT ORGANISATION

(% of Time: 10)

  • Help organise an alumni reunion in 2012.
  • Help the organisation of other small events, including visits of dignitaries to AIMS-NEI and AIMS, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • A tertiary qualification in communications or related field

Work Experience

  • At least 3 years' relevant experience in communications
  • Experience in events management

Competencies/personal attributes  

  • Enthusiasm and open-mindedness
  • Teamwork oriented and
  • Proven ability to work independently and under strict deadlines
  • Initiative taking

Competencies/personal attributes 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer and social media literacy
  • Some design skills
  • Knowledge of French would be an advantage

REMUNERATION: The remuneration package, including benefits will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The initial post is expected to be on a full-time contract position for 1 year. AIMS-NEI is an equal opportunity employer.
